Walking in platform heels is a skill — and like any skill, it's learnable. The dancers you see moving effortlessly in 23cm platforms didn't start there. They built the technique deliberately, step by step.
Posture First
- Shoulders back and down
- Core engaged
- Weight slightly forward — over the ball of your foot. The single most important adjustment.
- Chin level — looking down shifts weight backward
The Walking Technique
- Heel-to-toe, not toe-first: Place heel down first, roll through to ball of foot.
- Shorter strides: Overstriding throws weight backward. Let stride length increase naturally.
- One foot in front of the other: Walk along an imaginary line for natural hip movement.
Practice Progression
- Days 1–3: Stand and shift weight. Walk 10 steps, stop, reset.
- Days 4–7: Continuous laps. Focus on posture and stride.
- Week 2: Add turns and pivots.
- Week 3+: Take into training context.
