Heel height is the first question every beginner asks — and the answer depends on where you're starting from.
The Short Answer
For most beginners, 12–15cm with a 5–6cm platform is the ideal starting height. High enough to build performance skills, manageable enough to train in safely from week one.
By Experience Level
- Never worn heels: Start at 10–12cm. Build ankle strength for 4–6 weeks before moving up.
- Occasional heel wearer: Start at 12–15cm. Progress quickly.
- Regular heel wearer: Start at 15–18cm. Main adjustment is the platform sole.
- Training for pole: Start at 12–15cm, work toward 20–23cm. See: How to Choose the Right Pole Dance Heel Height.
Why the Platform Changes Everything
A 15cm heel with a 6cm platform puts your foot at a 9cm incline. A 10cm fashion heel with no platform puts your foot at a 10cm incline. The platform heel is actually more comfortable — despite being taller.
