Key Considerations by Performance Type

Pole Dance & Aerial

Keep it short. Anything past shoulder length risks tangling in apparatus or getting caught during inversions. Pixie to chin-length is safest. If you want longer, use a secure wig cap and test all moves before performing.

Drag & Cabaret

Longer is usually better for stage presence. Chest to waist length reads well under stage lighting and photographs beautifully. Floor-length wigs work for slow, dramatic numbers but restrict movement significantly.

Burlesque

Collarbone to chest length is the sweet spot — glamorous enough for the stage, short enough to move freely during reveals and choreography. Avoid floor-length for acts with quick costume changes.

Ballroom & Latin

Competition rules vary by federation. Most allow shoulder to chest length. Check your specific division rules before ordering. Secure attachment is critical — wig movement during spins can be penalized.

Festival & Cosplay

No rules here — go as long as your character demands. For all-day wear at festivals, waist length is the practical maximum. Hip and floor-length wigs require constant management and are best for photo shoots or short sets.

How Wig Length Is Measured

Wig length is always measured from the crown of the wig cap to the longest point of the hair when laid flat and straight. Curly or wavy wigs will appear shorter when worn than their listed length suggests.

Rule of thumb: For curly styles, order 2–4 inches longer than the straight equivalent. For very tight curls, go 4–6 inches longer.
